Insulated power cable carries the underground half of a distribution network — substation exits, feeders, service connections and the internal reticulation of industrial sites.

XLPE insulation is the modern default: it runs at a higher continuous conductor temperature than PVC, which means more current in the same cross-section. Armouring — steel wire for multicore, aluminium or steel tape for single-core — is specified where the cable is direct-buried or exposed to mechanical risk.

Constructions are available from low voltage up to 36 kV, single and multicore, copper or aluminium conductor.
